This
is an interesting recent industrial project
that we completed in 2025 for Mid America Car
- a leading American manufacturer of high quality
custom railway cars.


The
main role of this 20kW 68 Volt DC Polar Power
diesel generator is to provide power to a 6,000
VA 68 Volt DC DC to 120 Volt AC Converter used
to operate the air temperature control systems
and provide some 120 Volt AC power for some
other devices.
Here
is a breakdown of what was included in this
order:
1.
Polar Power 20kW, 64V, Yanmar 3TNV88,

We
will also supply a high volume oil pan. With
synthetic oil and our oil refining kit, we could
extend oil changes to 500 hours. Currently,
it’s 250 hours. We also supply an engine mounting
cradle.
Base
engine measurements: Length: 24.7 in (627.4
mm). Please add approx. 6” to length for the
Polar alternator attachment.
Width: 20.2 in (513.1 mm) Height: 26.2 in (665.5
mm) Dry Weight: 326 lbs / 148 kg. Add 40 pounds
for Polar Alternator.

DC To DC charger This is required and connects
to your 64 Volt battery pack and recharges the
Supercapacitor starting system.

Polar Power fuel filtration system Fuel refining
kit. This will not help with water, but will
help with particulates. A water separator and/or
polisher would be required to eliminate water
from the fuel.
9.
EKRail 6,000 VA 120VAC output inverter.
Please note this is two independent 3,000 VA
inverters sharing the same chassis. You will
need to wire each inverter’s output to its own
separate 30 Amp 120VAC circuit breaker panel.
